Waymo and other tech companies are racing to expand driverless cars across the country, but workers and communities are sounding the alarm.
Recent headlines show why this technology should not be rushed onto our streets. In San Francisco, Waymo vehicles were stranded in traffic and had to be towed after their batteries drained. In Atlanta, a crash involving a Waymo led to a vehicle fire. In Los Angeles, a crash involving a Waymo left a woman critically injured and others hurt.
These are not just glitches. Driverless vehicles share the road with workers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, families, and first responders. When this technology fails, our communities are the ones forced to deal with the consequences.
At the same time, app companies want to use automation to replace jobs without giving workers a say in what happens next. Drivers and delivery workers built this industry and keep our cities moving every day. We deserve a voice in the future being built around us.
That is why Justice for App Workers is pushing back. We are demanding:
- A ban on Waymo and other driverless cars in our communities
- Keeping autonomous vehicles out of our cities to protect driver jobs and public safety
- Strong oversight and transparency when crashes or failures happen
- Union rights so app workers have a real voice on the job

Our streets should not be testing grounds for billion-dollar tech companies. Public safety and workers’ livelihoods must come before corporate profits.
We are app workers. We built this industry, we keep our cities moving, and we will keep organizing for safe streets, good jobs, and a future where workers come first.
