We celebrated Chicago GigFest last week – share about it on social media!
Last Saturday, Illinois app workers & our families gathered for our third annual Chicago GigFest, and it was a day filled with delicious halal food, games, giveaways, and family fun. Since our launch in Illinois in 2022, we’ve been working extremely hard to win better safety protections for Illinois app workers, end unfair deactivations in Chicago, and more, and the quality time with our community reminded us exactly why we’re in this fight.
Additionally, if you received a supply of Narcan at GigFest, please take a few seconds and complete the sign-up form! This is an incredibly valuable resource that can save lives. Go to bit.ly/IDGSaveALife and fill out the form now if you received Naloxone/Narcan at GigFest.
For too long, app workers have been neglected by companies like Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, and GrubHub. They think we’ll take whatever they give us: poverty wages, 45-minute trips where we bear all the risks and they take most of the money in commissions, zero job security because we could be deactivated with the push of a button. But we know that we deserve better. We deserve to be able to provide for our families, and go to work without worrying about being carjacked, assaulted, or killed. We deserve the right to form a union and advocate for ourselves. That’s why we formed Justice for App Workers, and why we pledged to take on billion-dollar tech companies.
Being part of the community gathering at Chicago GigFest, we were reminded of the power of worker solidarity. We’re proud of everything we’ve achieved since our launch, and we know that together, we can – and will – transform the app work industry!
